We had booked a Borobudur sunrise tour, borobudur tour, then in the evening prambanan tour followed by ballet at Prambanan. We were accompanied by tour guide Andi who was amazing. He explained everything in detail and answered lot of our questions. At Borobudur we were handed to a specific Borobudur guide who was also great. For Borobudur sunrise, we were there during rainy season and so we ended up having a lot of cloud cover that blocked our view but at least we got to see the famous chicken church, otherwise Borobudur was hard to spot from the hill we were at. Even without cloud cover, it is far away so there isn’t a lot to see, you could probably skip this and not miss out much. Nonetheless it was a nice place to be very early in the morning, on a less cloud day I imagine the sunrise itself may be nice to appreciate. There is a fair amount of walking to do and steps to go up and down particularly at Borobudur and Prambanan. My wife has an injured knee but Andi took care and time to make sure we had time to slowly go up and down the stairs, we really appreciated this. When we were there Prambanan was very crowded as there seemed to be some sort of school trip, nonetheless it was interesting to explore the temples and learn about the stories associated with them. The Ramayanan ballet was incredible, the clothing, the music, and dance was phenomenal. As we were there during rainy season, we watched the ballet inside so didn’t get to appreciate it with the temples in the background, nonetheless it was such an amazing experience, I’d highly recommend it. Andi was a very knowledgeable tour guide and very friendly. We had a lovely day with him!
