The Kaliangkrik route to Mount Sumbing begins at the charming Dusun Butuh Basecamp, famously known as Nepal van Java for its stunning terraced village views. Before starting the adventure, hikers must register and obtain a SIMAKSI (Hiking Permit) at the basecamp.

The Hiking Route and Key Posts
Post 1 – The Wooden Stairway
The trek starts from the basecamp, leading up through a long wooden staircase said to have over 4,000 steps. Along the way, hikers are treated to beautiful views of the village and surrounding farmland.
Post 2 – The Pine Forest Path
From Post 1, the trail continues uphill through a refreshing pine forest. The cool air and peaceful atmosphere make this part of the journey enjoyable and relaxing.
Post 3 – The Wide Campsite
The path becomes steeper and more challenging toward Post 3, but the reward is a large open area that is perfect for setting up tents and resting under the clear mountain sky.
Post 4 – Batu Lawang (The Stone Gate)
This is one of the most famous spots along the Kaliangkrik route. Batu Lawang, or Stone Gate, is a massive rock formation that looks like a natural doorway. It offers stunning panoramic views and is a favorite photo spot for hikers.
True Summit of Mount Sumbing (3,371 m)
Before reaching the main summit, hikers pass Puncak Buntu, a smaller peak along the way. The final ascent is steep but worth it. At the top, you will be greeted by the breathtaking view of Mount Sindoro standing side by side with Sumbing and a sea of clouds below.
