Mondays in Yogyakarta – Know Before You Go

Please note that every Monday, several key cultural attractions are closed:

• Keraton (Sultan’s Palace)
• Sonobudoyo Museum
• Taman Sari Water Castle
• Ullen Sentalu Museum

Temple Visits on Mondays:
Access to Borobudur, Pawon, Mendut, and Prambanan is limited to temple grounds only — climbing is not permitted on Mondays, regardless of your ticket or accommodation.

Borobudur Temple Access Regulations
To help preserve this UNESCO World Heritage Site, new regulations are in place:

• Climbing is not allowed on Mondays
• Only 1,200 visitors per day may access the upper structure
• Opening Days: Tuesday – Sunday
• Hours: 09:00 – 17:00 WIB
• All visitors must join a scheduled guided session to climb

What About Sunrise Access?
Many travelers remember the magical sunrise climbs from years ago — back when you could reach the top of Borobudur at 5:30 AM.
However, this is no longer possible.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, access to the upper structure has been strictly regulated.
Early morning climbs have been discontinued, and the first available entry is now at 08:30 AM as part of the official time slots.
This applies to all visitors, including those staying at nearby hotels like Manohara.
